FAQS

JEWELRY INFORMATION:

Is KING ME jewelry real?

  • KING ME Jewelry comes standard in vermeil and, by request, in 10-24k solid gold. Our jewelry is "real" in the sense that we use pure sterling silver and/or solid gold as base metals under gold finish. In comparison, our jewelry is made of the same material Tiffany & Co., Pandora, and Cartier, just to name a few.

Does KING ME jewelry tarnish?

  •  The gold finish may fade or scratch with normal wear over time. We offer services to refurbish your jewelry should you need gold finishing & to restore the brand new look.

Will my skin react to your jewelry?

  •  Everyone is different and thus we cannot say whether or not you will react to jewelry we sell, or in general. We follow regulations to ensure our jewelry is produced with the highest quality manufacturing and by honest standards.
  • We suggest checking with your doctor to determine your jewelry tolerance & potential reaction to certain metals.
  • Our jewelry comes standard in vermeil or solid gold (depending on which you purchase) and more specifically, this is labeled on every product page, as it varies.
  • In general, sterling silver without gold finish & 24k gold are the purest metals and can pretty closely guarantee no reaction, in the case of sensitivities. A note about 24k gold though, is that it's a very soft metal and is not durable for everyday wear.

What is vermeil?

  • Typically, vermeil is a type of gold finished material that is composed of a layer of gold over solid sterling silver. Industry standards dictate that the gold portion must be 10 karats or above for a piece to be considered vermeil in the U.S., but most high-quality pieces are 14, 18 or 24 karats depending on the thickness of the jewelry. We usually finish in 14-18k.
  • If you want to build a collection of high-quality jewelry without the pure gold price tag, gold vermeil is a fantastic option.
  • Vermeil usually looks like gold to the naked eye, making it a great alternative for those who can't afford pure gold jewelry. You can also shine it up to give it a beautiful gloss, or leave it to fade for a vintage look.
  • Unlike other gold jewelry, vermeil is usually thinner, and the gold layer is achieved by using gold leaf or powder instead of a sheet of gold.
  • Another key factor here is that a vermeil piece must have a sterling silver base (instead of brass or cheaper metals).

What is gold finish?

  • Gold finish is not to be confused with gold plating. Gold finish is a high-quality process of gold layer over pure and quality metals such as sterling silver or solid gold. Industry standards dictate that the gold portion must be 10 karats or above for a piece to be considered high quality (for vermeil, for example) in the U.S., but most high-quality pieces are 14, 18 or 24 karats depending on the thickness of the jewelry. We usually finish in 14-18k.
  • Gold finish is achieved by using gold leaf or powder instead of a sheet of gold.
  • In gold plating, any metal can be used as the base, and the gold layer can be of varying levels of purity.
  • Gold plated pieces are cheaper than vermeil jewelry as they use any metal to create the core for the plating.
  • *we do not sell gold plated jewelry. We offer gold finish over vermeil and solid gold only*

What is gold plating?

  • *we do not sell gold plated jewelry, this information is for educational purposes only.*
  •   In gold plating, any metal can be used as the base, and the gold layer can be of varying levels of purity. This will result in a variety of thicknesses for the gold coating.
  • Gold plated pieces are cheaper than vermeil jewelry as they use any metal to create the core for the plating.
  • This can be steel or brass, which is dipped in gold to form a thin layer of gold plating. However, the coating can wear out eventually, leaving your jewelry with the base only.

What is gold filled?

  • It's an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating, (*we do not sell gold plated jewelry, this information is for educational purposes only.*) as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating.
  • Gold filled is much more valuable and tarnish resistant. It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors. As a matter of fact, most who can wear gold can wear gold filled with limited worries of reaction to the jewelry.
  • Gold filled jewelry is an economical alternative to solid gold.
  • Due to limited availability, our gold filled collection is small but we add this option for new pieces often.

Why wear vermeil vs. gold?

  • Vermeil jewelry can be a great and durable alternative to solid gold pieces.
  • We are a trusted seller when looking to purchase a vermeil piece.
  • You will certainly love the look and feel of vermeil jewelry, especially once you understand what it is, it's quality, and how to care for it.
  • It's one of those pieces you should never overlook when upgrading your jewelry box.

Can I wear your jewelry in the shower?

  • While our jewelry is very durable and many customers brag about being able to wear and "never" take off, we advise avoiding direct and prolonged contact with dust, pollution, cosmetics, water, lotions, perfumes, and chemicals. It's suggested to remove jewelry before taking a shower or swimming.
  • We recommend storing your jewelry in the tarnish-proof box or bag we provide. Storing one piece per airtight container will help prevent oxidation.
  • To clean your jewelry, use a clean cotton or microfiber cloth to buff it gently. Do not use chemical cleaners as they can easily strip the gold finish.
  • Over time, the gold layer is likely to fade. This is a common and natural property that adds a unique sense of character to the piece but can also be refurbished. Don't fret when that happens, read below for information on refinishing and refurbishing.

ABOUT THE BRAND- KING ME:

Why is king me different from other brands?

  • KING ME is different from other brands because we specialize in custom high-quality jewelry, a place where you can customize any original design you have or one we offer on our website. We make it easy to create a custom jewelry piece from scratch or customize pre-made designs any way you want, right at your fingertips, with the convenience of an e-commerce store.
  • We provide high-quality fine jewelry, repair warranty throughout the lifetime of your jewelry, and other jewelry services, such as refurbishing, even for items we did not make- all at very affordable pricing!

How does king me jewelry compare to other well-known jewelry companies?

  • Our jewelry is of the same quality as Tiffany & Co and Cartier, for example. Our jewelry is made of the same metals and gold finish they use, as well as similar handcrafting by very experienced manufacturers in Los Angeles, who produce our jewelry using the same manufacturing standards as these known brands. Similar to Cartier, we also design, manufacture, distribute, and sell jewelry.
  • Moreover, much of our jewelry is of better quality than select, high-priced items sold by brands such as David Yurman & Gucci, who sell their "fashion jewelry" for more than quadruple a normal retail price. A lot of the metals they use, for example, is cheaper, such as brass or mixed metals, but have the price tag of solid gold and platinum. Not only are our metals more high-quality than what these brands offer for their "fashion" high-priced items, for example, but we can offer solid gold jewelry items at usually less than they offer their cheaper metal pieces.
